Who (or how to hire well)

Updated: Sep 30

“Let’s try them and see how they work out……” is not a good hiring plan. If you agree then this book should interest you.

Smart and Street do a great job of explaining why getting trapped in the schema of documenting detailed job descriptions can blind us to a successful hire. Instead they suggest focusing on what the outputs of the role (if it succeeds) will be as well as what kind of person would succeed in it. In other words they suggest focusing on ability over experience and I agree.

This book is full of detailed advice on how to develop a successful hiring process that gives consistent results. There are a number of clear gems, particularly in the first half, and the whole thing is worthy of a considered read and re-read.
