Not many people have sat on the board of both Amazon and Google at the same time but John Doerr did. He started out at Intel and went on to become one of tech's most successful investors, applying his secret sauce at each company he backed.
What is his secret sauce? It’s “OKRs”, also known as Objectives and Key Results. It’s a management philosophy developed at Intel and now implemented by companies large and small as well as charities such as The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
In a nutshell it is a combination of defining key objectives, working out how they will be measured and empowering teams to get there with an appropriate rhythm of implementation and review meetings.
It’s also a great read.
