Well you are not alone and many managers complain that meetings are their most hated thing in the day! However, if you accept the premise that the core job of managers is to get things done through others then you also have to accept the need for meetings of some type, kind or description. Thankfully, Patrick Lancioni understands this pain and he has a simple and easy to follow solution in his short book “Death by Meeting”. Not only is this book the best treatise of the meetings conundrum that I have ever read, but Patrick also manages to make it entertaining by creating a parable.
In the book you join a number of well intentioned, hard-working and smart people who are failing to get work done because of bad meetings. A newcomer joins the team and stirs things up. It is a genuinely engaging and fun read that culminates in a practical solution that we can all follow. It's a short novel. So I have avoided plot-spoilers here. Just go ahead and read the book. You won’t regret it!
