Eicom automated blood sampling system, model DR-II is an automated blood aspirating robot for pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, endocrinology and toxicology. The DR-II allows automatic and intermittent blood sampling via implanted catheter in a laboratory animal. This system was developed in order to eliminate the intensive labor of researchers and reduce the stress on animals caused by human interaction. Blood samples are aspirated from unrestrained animals by a syringe pump and collected in a refrigerated fraction collector. This sampling is carried out without dilution, cross contamination, hemolysis and blood coagulation. If blood can not be withdrawn because of catheter trouble, optical sensors find the trouble and remove it. The flow is controled by a 5-way joint, 4 pinch valves and a syringe pump. The DR-II withdraws blood samples with minimam loss and minimizes your labor.

Procedure

Sample blood is sandwiched by air gaps and the air gaps clean the inner surface of the tubing and thus prevent diffusion. Secondly, the DR-II is equipped with a special 5-way joint and 4 pinch valves which do not interfere the smooth inner surface of tubing, therefore not blood coagulation occurs in the tubing. Thirdly, the case of a low diffusion factor also helps eliminate any cross contamination.

Optical sensor system precisely controls sampling methods.

The DR-II automatically calibrates the catheter volume.

At most 16 units of the DR-II can be controlled simultaneously or independently by one PC (One DR-II carries out sampling from one catheter).
